This was a typical dark walnut 1970’s era kitchen. The faces and ends of all existing cabinet boxes were refinished and new cabinet doors and drawer fronts were custom finished and installed for a fresh, clean look. New hardware and hinges were installed as part of this beautiful update.
The original cabinets in this kitchen were constructed from African Padauk (the reddish colored panels) and maple. During an extensive remodel, a bank of new cabinets was added in the style of the originals, including panels for the built-in refrigerator. Padauk loses its red/purple color and turns quite brown from exposure to sunlight, so the existing cabinets that remained in place were painstakingly stripped and refinished to bring out the brilliant colors of the wood again.
The kitchen and bathroom cabinets in this house were dinged up and had water damage in places. All of the original pine cabinet boxes, doors and drawer fronts were repaired where needed and refinished.
Original dark 1970’s double entry doors were replaced with these 9 lite prairie style custom stained fir doors.
